It is made of hard, durable plastic so as to wrap around the APPLE and preserve it from vibration and movement. The stand also has a pen holder to place the pen on the base. It also has three provisions in the back to accommodate the RAM-B-202U ball (not included) so that the Ipad can be positioned and supported both horizontally and vertically. Compatible with both ball B RAM-B-202U(included in the package) and ball C RAM-202U
